Transfer Comparison

JFK to Manhattan: All Transfer Options Compared

Updated April 2026

From cheapest to most expensive: AirTrain+subway ($11), Hampton Jitney ($35-45), yellow taxi ($70-85 flat), UberX ($65-130), Uber Black ($90-200+), black car flat ($165), helicopter ($195-365). Each has a clear use case.

AirTrain + Subway: $11

$8 AirTrain + $2.90 subway. Cheapest, but: 60-90 min total time including transfer at Jamaica/Howard Beach, no luggage assistance, packed during rush hour, requires walking with bags. Acceptable for solo, light luggage, time-flexible travelers.

Yellow Taxi Flat: $70 + Tolls (~$85)

JFK to Manhattan flat rate set by NYC TLC. Walk-up at the taxi line. Cheapest car option, but: no flight tracking, no meet-and-greet, taxi line waits at peak times can run 30-90 min, vehicle quality varies (medallion cabs are old). Acceptable for solo/couples, no urgent timing.

UberX / Lyft: $65-130 Surge-Variable

On-demand via app. Cheapest at off-peak times, expensive during surge (3-4x during weather/Friday rush). No flight tracking, driver's personal vehicle, late-night cancellations common. Acceptable for solo, off-peak, no luggage.

Uber Black: $90-200+ Surge-Variable

Premium rideshare tier in driver-owned premium vehicle. Same surge problem, no flight tracking, no meet-and-greet. Generally not worth the premium over UberX.

Black Car Flat: $165

Pre-booked, flat-rate, vetted chauffeur in late-model fleet vehicle. Includes flight tracking, meet-and-greet at baggage claim, 60-min comp wait, all tolls, gratuity. The premium over taxi buys reliability — surge-proof, on-time, professional. Best for: airport arrivals, corporate, families with luggage. See JFK car service.

Helicopter (Blade, etc): $195-365

5-7 min flight from JFK helipad to Manhattan helipad + 10-30 min vehicle to actual destination. Saves time during peak traffic but the price + helipad transfer logistics make it niche.
